Deer turns a Winston-Salem laundromat into an obstacle course

· BehindLines newsroom

Laundry day took an unexpected turn at a laundromat in North Carolina. A deer went through a window at Wishy Washy Laundry in Winston-Salem after colliding with a woman in the parking lot. WBTV dates the incident to Tuesday, October 27; its report and the article carried by AOL were published on October 29.

In through a window, out through the same opening

According to WBTV, surveillance footage shows the animal crossing the street, striking the woman and then entering the building. Inside, customers try to move out of its path, with several climbing up on desks. The deer eventually leaves through the same opening it used to get in.

The account by Lily Shanagher, available on AOL, also describes the animal moving among carts, clothes racks and chairs before jumping over a sofa. It falls onto its side, then tries to climb onto a piece of furniture before leaving the laundromat.

Damage and an account that needs attribution

Owner Corey Pendergrass told local media that nobody had been injured and that he had needed to repair a window, AOL reports. This is the owner's account, rather than an independent medical assessment.

The same article relays an employee's account: staff called emergency services after the collision in the parking lot, but the woman had left before responders arrived. AOL also reports that none of the laundromat's equipment was damaged.

Both publications describe the same incident, drawing on the business's video. Their publication dates do not indicate a second entry into the building on October 29. The reports do not establish what caused the animal to behave in this way.
