In Turin, the exhibition The Quantum Effect is due to open to the public on 31 October at the OGR. The project looks at how the ideas of quantum physics circulate in images, cinema and contemporary art. It is presented as an exhibition by OGR Torino and SMAC Venice.
The curators Daniel Birnbaum and Jacqui Davies are proposing a new configuration for Binario 1, after a first presentation in Venice. Installations and moving images serve as meeting points between several artistic languages. Their subject is their relationship to representations of reality. OGR presentation.
The artists announced include Tomás Saraceno, Cerith Wyn Evans, Isa Genzken and Man Ray. The diversity of practices is meant to approach space and perception in several ways, rather than reduce the show to a schoolbook illustration of a theory. Programme as presented by ANSA.
In its presentation of the project, the agency ANSA also points to an installation by Yayoi Kusama combining light and mirrors. Her piece invites visitors to experience the idea of infinity visually. Access to this room is announced with time slots and a limited capacity: it is a separate organisational matter, to be checked with the venue. ANSA announcement.
The programme also includes a film cycle organised with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema. The announced dialogue between artworks, films and research concerns imaginaries: an installation evoking infinity is not, on its own, an experience that can verify a law of physics.
The public opening on 31 October follows an inauguration announced for the 30th. These two dates refer to different stages in the organisers' programme. Visiting arrangements and any changes to the programme remain to be confirmed on the venue's page.
