Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday 31 October 2026 at Stamford Bridge in Premier League matchweek 9. Both goals came after the break, from Morgan Rogers (50th minute) and then Cole Palmer from the penalty spot (64th), in a game that United finished with ten men.
Goalless before the break
According to Chelsea News, the first half stayed scoreless. The hosts had seven shots, three of them on target, while United attempted nine. Per 101greatgoals, VAR ruled out Matheus Cunha's goal for United for a very narrow offside (34th minute, a Maguire header from a Bruno Fernandes corner). Chelsea, for their part, had two Estêvão goals disallowed for offside, one in the 15th minute and one in the 72nd.
Rogers starts it, Palmer finishes it
After the restart, Romeo Lavia won the ball and fed Morgan Rogers about 35 yards from goal. Chelsea News says he got past Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martínez before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens; 101greatgoals puts the goal in the 50th minute. Martínez, booked in the 59th minute, was then caught by VAR for a challenge on Wesley Fofana in his own area: a penalty for Chelsea and a second yellow card, so a sending-off, for the United defender (64th). Cole Palmer converted from the spot. It was his 50th Premier League goal for Chelsea, in 105 appearances, according to both sources; Chelsea News adds, citing Chelsea FC, that only Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Diego Costa reached that mark in fewer games.
A table on the move
Chelsea, managed by Xabi Alonso, are back in the top four. According to 101greatgoals, the club is fourth on 16 points after nine matchdays. Manchester United, led by Michael Carrick, are 17th on 7 points and are winless in nine matches in all competitions, their worst run since 1988-89 according to the same source. Chelsea News notes that United could drop into the relegation zone.
What comes next
Manchester United host AS Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday 3 November. Chelsea travel to Sunderland on Sunday 8 November at 2pm local time. The two sources differ on some match statistics (possession, shot counts), which are therefore left out here.
